Get Cultured: The Benefit of Unsalted, Probiotic Food

The cultured food I am talking about here does not contain salt …. cultured buttercreme fraichecoconut kefir, cultured vegetables; all living foods made with probiotic starter*. NO salt. See more about that bit here.

When you eat unsalted, cultured food, the probiotics in them will go into your gut/inner ecosystem and set up shop where they make babies, grow in population, and essentially build micro-cities the size of New York City in a matter of hours. No joke. Once they settle into your gut lining they are in a position to support you in various beneficial ways.

Whole grains have been a principal food for thousands of years and are close to being a nutritionally complete food as they are rich in amino acids, carbohydrates, fiber, minerals, vitamins, and fat.

This ancient food strengthens the body with a warm, slow burning kind of energy and grain tastes pretty good too! We top ours with cultured butter, pesto, and sprinkling of hemp seeds.

Unfortunately, grains also contain enzyme inhibitors and toxins – such as phytates, tannins, and goitrogens – that can harm the body, especially the lining of the digestive tract; extending from mouth to the anus.

The Nerdy Part of Food Combining

gutMany of you know that I’m a big fan of food combining. This is something I learned how to do when I was on B.E.D to heal yeast overgrowth and now years later continue to do with each meal. Practicing this one principle each time I eat is one of the reasons why I rarely get bloated or have stomach issues.

Proper food combining happens when you eat foods that are compatible with each other. That go well with each other. In nerdy terms of digestive chemistry the term proper food combining means”what foods to eat with what”.

Different food groups (starches, protein, fruit) require different digestion times and different gastric juices to break ’em down. Sound complicated? It’s not! I’ve been food combining for years. So do my kids 🙂

Vaginal Yeast Infections: A Holistic Take

Vaginal Yeast Infections: A Holistic Take

Written by Tara Carpenter, NC.

vaginal-yeast-infection-symptoms
Vaginal yeast infections are often the result of a type of micro-flora called Candida albicans that have grown out of control. This type of flora typically lives in harmony with other types of flora in the digestive tract; from the mouth down and out the genitals.

Problems occur when this delicate balance gets out of whack. When that happens, the Candida breed quickly and overtake the good flora living in the body; including the birth canal.
