Lakanto: A Sugar for Diabetes & Yeast Overgrowth

I found lakanto while doing The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) to heal yeast overgrowth (Candida). This healing protocol suggested avoiding honey, white/raw sugar, maple syrup, and other sweeteners I relied on.

After weeks without sweets, I was thrilled to find lakanto to make sweet treats that I could eat! This sugar alternative doesn’t feed harmful pathogens (i.e. GBS+, Candida) nor does it make our blood acidic like most sweeteners do. It’s also safe for diabetics or hypoglycemics as lakanto doesn’t influence insulin or blood sugar levels.

Benefits

  • Zero calories
  • Zero glycemic index
  • Zero additives
  • Safe for diabetics
  • No influence on blood sugar and insulin release
  • Perfect for those on a Candida Diet (i.e. B.E.D.)
  • 1-to-1 ratio with sugar — easy to measure and use

Lakanto has been safely enjoyed in Japan for many years. The Japanese Ministry of Health approved Lakanto for use in Japan and recommends it for weight loss, obesity and blood sugar problems like diabetes. Lakanto has GRAS status here in the US. In fact, over 9,000 hospitals in Japan serve Lakanto to their patients.

Ingredients

Lakanto is made from 2 ingredients …. non-GMO erythritol and luo han guo fruit extract.

#1) Erythritol

This sugar alcohol is naturally found in many foods (i.e. grapes, pears, mushrooms, soy sauce, cheese, wine, beer) and has been part of the human diet for thousands of years. What makes this brand of erythritol different than other sugar alcohols (+ easier on gut) is that it’s made by a natural process of fermenting sugar in corn. Lakanto is not hydrogenated like most sugar alcohols, thus it is easy for our body to recognize and digest.

#2) Luo han guo

This sweet fruit has many health benefits. It’s anti-carcinogenic, regulates blood sugar, decreases oxidative stress, prevents tooth decay, is anti-inflammatory, rich in antioxidant, inhibits tumor growth, and is a natural antihistamine.
