Overview of Autistic Spectrum Disorders

Autistic spectrum disorders (ASD) is a group of developmental disorders characterized by varying degrees of impairment in communication skills, social abilities, and restrictive/repetitive behaviors.  At the top end of the autistic spectrum is full-fledged autism, pervasive developmental disorder (PDD) and Asperger’s syndrome.  At the lower end is attention deficit disorder (ADD) and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) along with dyslexia.

ADD, ADHD, PPD, Asberger’s syndrome & dyslexia are all examples of autistic spectrum disorders.

There are 2 basic types of autism: autism from birth (classic autism) and regressive autism, generally occuring between 12-24 months of age after a period of relatively normal development and behavior.  It is estimated that 1.77 million Americans are affected by autistic spectrum disorders and this number could grow to 25 million by 2015.

Autism is not the congenital condition that it was once assumed to be.

This complex disorder is not the congenital condition that it was once assumed to be.  It is preventable and reversible. Beginning in the digestive tract, autistic spectrum disorder is a gut-brain infection due to a lack of beneficial bacteria in the gut.  Without enough good flora in the gut, infections are easily able to grow and have the potential to travel to the brain, interfering and ultimately changing its normal functioning and development.  Abnormal gut flora, leaky digestive tract and the resulting toxicity produced in the digestive tract all play a key role in the development of autistic spectrum disorder.

Autistic spectrum disorder is a gut-brain infection due to a lack of beneficial bacteria in the gut.

In order to reverse and/or prevent autism, or any neurological disorder, the gut must first and foremost be healed.  With up to 70% of the neurochemistry being made on the surface of the gastrointestinal tract, we can be certain that if the flora balance is off in the digestive tract then the balance will also be off in the brain.

By rebalancing beneficial bacteria in the gut, the digestive system can naturally correct itself and the brain begins to receive the essential nutrients and minerals it is starving for – particularly proteins and essential fatty acids.  Once the inner ecosystem is balanced and maintained, the first critical step has been taken in gaining control of any yeast infection present in an autistic person’s blood, gut and brain.
