Digestive issues include mild, temporary cases of lactose and gluten intolerance to more serious, chronic conditions such as Crohn’s disease and ulcers. Many people have a digestive issue in some shape or form.
Both my kids (see my bloated boy in photo) had digestive issues as did I for too many years. We have since recovered and mostly restored our digestion by following a gut healing protocol called The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D).
Digestive and gut issues go by different names, but they have two things in common …. yeast overgrowth and leaky gut syndrome …. if a yeast infection is left untreated, the yeast can develop intocolonies that root into the intestinal walls and make the intestinal gut lining porous and leaky.
Do you have yeast overgrowth? Take this quiz to see.
Imagine your gut is a bucket with hundreds of holes in it. This is what it is like to have leaky gut. You will have undigested or partially digested food particles plus harmful toxins emitted from the bad yeast crossing through the gut lining into the bloodstream which messes with the immune system. Since, the digestive and immune system are one system, it’s pretty rare to have a gut issue without having a brain issue and vice versa.
I have studied this topic in depth because I come from a long line of family members with mental illness and digestive issues. I find that when a person works on one aspect of their body (in this case, say the gut) then they will feel relief in the other (the brain). I have many parents who remove sugar from their child’s diet and find they are able to focus better and many adults who remove a stimulant like coffee from their diet and feel more calm.
Digestive Issues
- Appendicitis
- Colon Cancer
- Constipation/Diarrhea
- Crohn’s Disease
- GERD/Heartburn
- Gluten/Lactose Intolerance
- Hemorrhoids
- Indigestion
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS)
- Leaky Gut Syndrome
- Stomach Cancer
- Stomach/Duodenal Ulcers (peptic ulcers)
While some digestive issues don’t seem to affect digestion, they are likely related. For ex. hemorrhoids are inflamed, clotted blood vessels in the anal region that don’t seem to disrupt the digestion process. Yet, they are often related to the overall well-being of the digestive tract (mouth to anus).
Restoring good digestion takes effort, discipline and patience. Most of the people I work with are glad they took the time to heal. Healing is an act of self-care that I have come to believe is one of the most important things we can do for ourselves.
“Healing is the end of conflict with yourself.”
Strong digestion = strong immune system.
Creating a balanced, strong digestive system is your best form of defense against getting sick. Up to 80% of the immune system is housed in the digestive tract, which means your immune system works 24/7 to break down hard-to-digest food, repair damaged tissue, and keep pathogens from growing out of control.
Your immune system can get exhausted from working non-stop to deal with chronic troublesome issues. A sign this occurring is if you have some of the above issues; if so, it might be time to give your immune system a break with an immune-friendly, gut healing diet like The body Ecology Diet (B.E.D).
The ‘body ecology’ way of eating calms down the whole body system; including the immune and digestive system and gives your body the time to rest and recuperate. Once your strength is regained, your body will once again pour its energy into the work it’s primarily designed for …. to cleanse and heal itself. Certain foods and ways of combining food plays a key role in correcting digestive issues and has the potential to restore homeostasis and get you feeling better again with a body that self-regulates itself.
