Bone stock has been used for centuries as a folk remedy with healing properties; made by simmering animal skin and marrow bones. The result is a stock that stands as a basis for countless other recipes; or as we do, drink hot on its own in a mug with pinch of sea salt and a poached egg 🙂 Stock contains collagen, gelatin, omega-3 fats, essential minerals (calcium, magnesium), amino acids and electrolytes.
Bone stock is healing, mineral-rich, and nutrient-dense. The main role of stock in your body is to provide essential building blocks for rapid growing cells in your gut’s lining. Bone stock has the ability to strengthen digestion, reduce inflammation, and boost immunity and is EASY to make!
Can help with…
- Intestinal/digestive disorders (Crohn’s, leaky gut, Celiac Disease)
- Tooth decay and want to halt cavities and reverse gum disease
- Inflammatory conditions
- Autoimmune conditions
- Arthritis and joint pain
- Those on stage 2 of Body Ecology Diet or GAPS
Digestive issues
Bone stock is a natural digestive aid and helps make hydrochloric acid, which breaks down protein in stomach. It’s medicinal because it contains minerals that are easy for body to digest and absorb. If you struggle with diarrhea, bloating, or gas and find most food makes you uncomfortable, you might find stock soothing. Drink every day, every meal!
Bone stock ‘heal + seals’ gut lining and prevents a leaky gut. No one wants this condition because when gut is leaky (porous) then undigested food particles can get into the bloodstream and wreak havoc on tissues, organs and immune system that can result in food allergies and intolerance.
Arthritis and joint pain
Cartilage and tendons in stock make stock rich in chondroitin sulphates and glucosamine. These naturally occurring chemicals are found in, and around, the cells of cartilage and in fluid around joints. Yet, they become depleted as we age or if we have conditions like arthritis and joint pain. Stock is a #1 anti-inflammatory on earth; also easy to make so why spend $$ on expensive supplements for arthritis and joint pain. Especially when supplements are often made with synthetic ingredients and additives.
Calcium-rich
If you don’t eat dairy products due to food intolerance/allergy or choose not to – rest assured that bone stock is excellent source of calcium. Meat stocks are especially beneficial for a child’s growing body and for mom’s who are pregnant and growing a baby.
