My son off to school!

If you have a child on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) or a ‘gluten-sugar-yeast free’ diet, then you know the effort needed to pack a well-balanced lunchbox. As a mom myself, I will share here some of my family’s lunch ideas to hopefully make your life and mornings easier.

Pumpkin Seed Butter

This nutrient-dense pumpkin seed butter contains no sugar or unhealthy oils and is a safe alternative for “nut-free” kids. We love to spread on flax crackers, roasted nori sheets, green apples, waffles, and celery sticks 🙂

First, we eat and then we do everything else!

Keeping Kids “Sugar-Free” at School

Up until my oldest started kindergarten, he had limited exposure to refined sugar. We were an organic, homemade kind of family that consciously avoided sugar, artificial colors, gluten, and pasteurized dairy.

Most of our friends ate how we did and if we went somewhere serving food we couldn’t eat, I checked beforehand to see what we could bring. No matter what food we ate, or didn’t eat, I think its important to feel included; especially for kids.

Tips for Packing Lunch on The Body Ecology Diet

When you start on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.), that once oh so simple task of packing lunch will kick up a notch, or 10 …. not only are you learning how to make food without sugar, flour, yeast, or pasteurized dairy but you’re also learning how to crack coconuts for yck, practicing 80/20, and food combining

I’ve been packing B.E.D.-friendly lunches since 2010. What used to take forever and give me a near panic attack just thinking about task, is now easier. There is a learning curve! When I first started, my oldest was in elementary and youngest in preschool. My husband, whom I met a year into stage 1, is an independent contractor usually out building most days; he is very active and hungry. I myself travel out of the home a couple days a week for work and I pack a small cooler of homemade food to bring on these long work days.
