Stage 1 Grocery List for The Body Ecology Diet

Stage 1 Grocery List for The Body Ecology Diet

Tara Carpenter, NC.

Holistic nutrition for people on Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.).

Updated: July 28, 2023.

This grocery list for stage 1 of Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) is a good starting point to begin a concentrated, strict phase of healing; most feel relief from chronic health symptoms within 3-6 months. Yet, everyone responds differently to life and diet changes. More importantly the pace you set is yours …. hit that bullseye!

I offer B.E.D. Support along the way …. how long you stay on stage 1 depends mostly on the severity of the health condition(s) you came into the diet with and what your goal is.

Thanks for my nutritional consult, I feel buoyed with this grocery list! ~ KM, Kentucky

I spoke with Donna Gates, founder of Body Ecology Diet, in 2011 and 2023 to put together the list below. These foods are a holistic, natural approach to addressing yeast, bacterial, and viral infections, give the immune and digestive system time to rest/repair, and for the body as a whole to renew itself to the self-healing organism it is designed to be.

Foods listed below are found at a health food store or made at home. Buy or grow organic to avoid pesticides, herbicides, synthetic hormones, and antibiotic residues known to impair healing. Everything here on this list is gluten-sugar-yeast-free, unless otherwise noted. As always, food combine 🙂

Move slowly and with a smile like my rosy-cheeked boy in this photograph, taken in 2010, when we practiced stage 1 as a family.

Pumpkin Pie (stage 1) for The Body Ecology Diet

My 10 year old asked for pumpkin pie for his birthday this year and that’s what we did. The challenge was to make a yummy pie for a kid who can’t eat gluten, nuts, dairy, or flour. As a family, we practice food combining and avoid sugar so this was taken into consideration.

What I came up with was a no-bake pumpkin filling smoothed into a baked pumpkin seed crust. This recipe is free of the most common allergens (i.e. dairy, eggs, nuts, gluten, peanuts, soy) and is a B.E.D.-friendly for those on The Body Ecology Diet. If you have transitioned into stage 2, here is the recipe for my pumpkin pie with almond crust.

I hope that you enjoy my creation. Watching my boy smile as he blew out his candles was worth every minute it took to make this pie a good one ?

Thanksgiving Stuffing ~ Grain-Free & B.E.D. Friendly

Thanksgiving Spread-edited

This recipe came about when I first started The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) and Thanksgiving came around. I could eat the turkey and vegetables but wanted a scoop of stuffing too. Bread was obviously out and most of the grain-free stuffing I found was made with nuts which didn’t combine well with meat. It wanted to adhere to food combining, a key healing principle on the diet, so I searched for an alternative.
