Recipe soaking nuts and seeds

Soaking Nuts & Seeds (Traditional Method)

A Variety of Nuts & Seeds SoakingNuts and seeds are nutrient-dense and easy to munch; they also contain enzyme inhibitors and plant toxins, like phytic acid. This is why it’s best to soak them in warm, salty water.

When this soaking step is skipped, then inhibitors inside the nuts and seeds can prevent your gut from absorbing nutrients in this otherwise nutrient-rich food. These inhibitors can weaken digestion, steal nutrients from you, and cause food sensitivities. If you already struggle with poor digestion or a health condition like osteoporosis then you’ll want to do all you can to keep your gut strong.

The most efficient way to minimize these harmful enzyme inhibitors and toxins is to make your own nuts and seeds with the recipe below.

B.E.D. Recipe The Body Ecology Diet

Sunny Cocoa Truffles for The Body Ecology Diet

These heavenly bonbons are free of most common allergens and acceptable for stage 2 of The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D). If you have food sensitivities, you know how hard it can be to find a treat that tastes good with ingredients that are “allowed”. This is especially true if you’re traveling or away from the comforts of your kitchen.

I always keep a few different kinds of treats ready-made in the freezer that I can pull out and eat when a sweet craving hits. I also like to pack them in my purse or the kids’ lunchbox. During the holidays, I’ll package a few up with other kinds of bonbons (party store sells paper boxes for just this) or wrap a trio in parchment paper as stocking stuffers. read more

Ben’s Breakfast on The Body Ecology Diet ?

Ben's Breakfast!

My son woke on Saturday morning and asked to prepare breakfast. With our weekend here, and typical daily grind at a halt, I happily accepted his offer.

I started The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) to heal my yeast overgrowth in 2010. Naturally, my kids followed suit. I’m also a nutritionist, so my boys have always been immersed in the world of healing. They often find me culturing butter, doing colonics, and cracking coconuts for yck.

On this sunny Saturday, I busied myself with chopping vegetables for a dinner casserole, while quietly watching from the corner of my eye. Ben moved about the kitchen with grace and ease; speaking out loud, yet to himself, as he pulled assorted dishes and food from the refrigerator.

Other then asking for my help with turning on gas burners, he did it all. He decided on the menu, cleaned all the pots he needed, and cut a head of cabbage with my Japanese cleaver. At one point I asked

The Nerdy Part of Food Combining

gutMany of you know that I’m a big fan of food combining. This is something I learned how to do when I was on B.E.D to heal yeast overgrowth and now years later continue to do with each meal. Practicing this one principle each time I eat is one of the reasons why I rarely get bloated or have stomach issues.

Proper food combining happens when you eat foods that are compatible with each other. That go well with each other. In nerdy terms of digestive chemistry the term proper food combining means”what foods to eat with what”.

Different food groups (starches, protein, fruit) require different digestion times and different gastric juices to break ’em down. Sound complicated? It’s not! I’ve been food combining for years. So do my kids 🙂
