Parsley Power: Green Smoothie Recipe

Parsley Power: Green Smoothie Recipe

Tara Carpenter, NC.

Traditionally, parsley is used as a remedy for anemia, bad breath, menstrual pain, and more; enjoy all the benefits in one glass 🙂 I will go as far as to say that within a week of drinking this green smoothie each morning, you may be hooked! The blend works and tastes great.

Parsley is an herb and is rich in A + K vitamins, folate, beta-carotene, calcium, iron, antioxidants, and essential oil. Some health benefits include: cancer inhibitor, liver detoxifier, anti-inflammatory, immune booster, bone builder, and gallstone dissolver (contains oxalic acid/kidney cleanser).

Candida The Body Ecology Diet Yeast infection

Candidiasis (a.k.a. yeast overgrowth)

Candida, also known as Candidiasis or yeast overgrowth, is not a germ, a bug, or a disease. It is a serious immune disorder that gets its name from Candida albicans; a family of yeast that are the most common micro-flora organisms that live in human digestive tract.

A healthy bowel contains a 10:1 bacteria to yeast ratio, with good yeast outnumbering the bad bacteria to maintain ecological balance. Certain factors can throw this balance off, including excess stress, sugar, birth control pill, vaccinations, and antibiotics. All of these allow

Dandy The Lion: A Vegetable Green Smoothie ?

My husband nicknamed this one and I think it is appropriate given that the French origin of the word dandelion – dent-de-lioun – means “tooth of the lion” due to the plant’s sharply indented leaves. This fierce little smoothie contains a handful of dandelion greens, if you want more of a kick, add more leaves.

Our home resides in a community with an Earthship greenhouse and while up there yesterday, I spotted a patch of dandelion greens and thought to myself “why not?”. I love adding greens to my morning smoothies … watercress, parsley, cilantro … and given that we are in the month of April, I figure this is as good a time as any to create a delicious spring beverage for us all to enjoy.

B.E.D. The Body Ecology Diet Yeast infection

The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.)

The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D) is a way of eating designed to address yeast, bacterial, and viral overgrowth in the body. A main purpose is to boost immunity by alkalizing blood and restoring inner ecosystem to naturally support the body in being the self-healing organism it is.

The goal is not to eradicate yeast, bacteria, or viruses. That would be impossible and less than ideal. Instead, the focus is to restore the body’s strength so all parts work in harmony. A first step in restoring the body’s ecology and reversing yeast, bacterial, or viral overgrowth is to starve out pathogens by no longer feeding them foods that make them grow; we also want to make the inner ecosystem (gut) an unsuitable environment for these problematic organisms to live. B.E.D. achieves this with mineral and probiotic rich foods that alkalizes the blood and colonizes the gut with friendly flora that correct the body’s pH and assists digestion and elimination.

B.E.D. doesn’t contain gluten, sugar, or yeast and utilizes traditional methods of preparation to ensure easy-to-digest, nutrient dense, probiotic-rich food. Within a few diligent weeks, you can expect to feel a significant shift in how you feel. This diet isn’t a fad; the underlying principles are thousands of years old and can be used your entire life, even passed down to your children.

‘Travel Food List’ for The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D)

When you’re on The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) or another gut healing protocol, travel can be challenging. It’s hard to be away from your kitchen comfort zone. The world can feel too big; food choices too slim.

Food is everywhere but your mouth because you can’t eat any of what is available. Coffee brewing, fries frying, and pizza baking can be unbearable; it’s hard to say no on the go.

Benefits of Young Coconut Kefir & Pudding

Young green coconut kefir is made from the lightly sweet ‘water’ found inside a Thai baby coconut. You can also make a coconut pudding from the tender meat found in a Thai baby coconut. I have found best success with making both with Body Ecology’s starter*.

The kefir and the pudding are digestive aids that are rich in magnesium, calcium, essential fatty acids, and beneficial flora (aka probiotics). They are also much cheaper, and effective, than a probiotic supplement

Benefits

  • Rich in enzymes and probiotics
  • Increases energy
  • Eliminates heavy metals
  • Decreases sugar cravings
  • Ease joint pain
  • Calms nerves
  • Clears skin
  • Reverses Candida
  • Rebuilds intestinal flora
  • Helps those with autoimmune issues or going through chemo who are susceptible to yeast overgrowth
  • Regulates hormones
  • Soothes baby’s colic, diaper rash, cradle cap (give to babies young as 2 days old)
  • Discourages GBS overgrowth in birth canal so you can have an antibiotic-free birth
  • Controls cravings
  • Enhances fertility
  • Easier menstrual periods
  • Counteracts side-effects from corticosteroids, birth control pill, and antibiotics
  • Shiny hair (My husband had grey hair. After eating cultured food for a few months, it turned black and soft.)
  • Helpful for anyone on Body Ecology or GAPS Diet

Benefits for Women

Coconut kefir and pudding cleanses the endocrine system (adrenals, thyroid, pituitary, ovaries). Many women find their menstrual period becomes more clean and healthy after eating these unsalted cultured foods. If you’re prone to pms, you might find that goes away. If you’re experiencing early menopause, you may find your monthly cleansing return again. Breast-milk can become more probiotic-rich with the addition of these foods!

Digestive Issues

When the gut is inflamed or permeable (leaky gut), as is often the case with digestive issues like IBS, Crohn’s, or gluten intolerance then young green coconut kefir and pudding can help because they have anti-inflammatory and cooling properties. These foods soothe and repair the digestive lining.

Yeast Infections

Coconut kefir and pudding are alkalizing and anti-fungal in nature. They are ideal for anyone with a yeast or bacterial infection (i.e. Candida, GBS+) because they keep the gut environment in a correct pH which make pathogenic yeast, like Candida Albicans and Group B Strep bacterium die-off and give good flora an opportunity to thrive again.

*This is my favorite kefir starter to make both the yck and pudding (recipes below). This starter contains potent strains of probiotics that have been shown to survive the long journey from mouth to gut; where they remain intact, wake up, and keep us strong and healthy in so many ways. Most probiotics get destroyed by antibiotics, fluoride, stomach acid, and chlorinated water before they even reach the gut.
