I discovered The Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.) at a time in my life when I was stuck in an unhealthy relationship that didn’t feel good and I was stuck in a body that didn’t feel good. I had spent years struggling with my health and various versions of disordered eating.

I was 100 pounds overweight, my joints hurt, I was sick all the time, and I had allergic reactions to everything. I was chronically exhausted and had a hopelessly weak constitution, something I feared would last the rest of my life. I was only 23 years old.

Salmon heads are packed with tender meat and abundant fat along the jawbone. They are especially prized for making fish stock as a base for soup of all kinds and contain vitamin A, Omega-3, iron, zinc, and calcium.

I was apprehensive to make salmon head stock. Though I had experience with chicken and other meat stocks, I’d never made fish stock and imagined the whole house smelling ‘fishy’.

Cannabis Cacao Capsules

My morning apple with nut butter and a hot cup of tea was joined by a couple of capsules fresh filled with warm cacao butter. I woke at dawn to fill capsules to the sounds of birds waking up outside while my family continued to sleep deeply. My kitchen peaceful with the day coming alive …. an hour later I was fueled from remnants left on my fingers from the capsule making process. A flood of relaxation rippled through my body and two more capsules later felt myself breathe out.

Pumpkin Seed Butter

This nutrient-dense pumpkin seed butter contains no sugar or icky oil and is a safe alternative for “nut-free” kids. We spread on flax crackers, roasted nori sheets, green apples, waffles, and celery sticks 🙂

Chicken stock, like any other meat stock, is rich in minerals, gelatin, and collagen. All of which keep bones/teeth strong; joints supple; and hair soft. As a kid, I fondly remember the soup going on the back burner of our stove; my mother always simmering bones after the supper roast had the night before. The scent of onion and bay leaves would permeate into the wooden floorboards of my bedroom above perking my nose and want to wander down and have a bowl. As I got older and became a vegan, meat became a distant memory

Most floss is made from nylon, a petroleum-based product coated with Teflon synthetic resin – similar to nonstick cookware material – called PTFE (a.k.a. polytetrafluoroethylene). Both are known to be carcinogenic and attribute to cancer, arthritis, altered immune responses, and thyroid/hormone imbalances.

When I first heard this, I thought “how can floss cause this many issues” … here’s the short version; floss with PTFE leaves chemical traces in the mouth that are inevitably swallowed or absorbed into the bloodstream through the thin mucosa lining of the mouth. This raises concern for those of us who diligently floss once or twice a day, year-round.

This grocery list is for Stage 1 of Body Ecology Diet (B.E.D.). This stage lasts about 3-6 months and when most people feel dramatic changes in how they feel. This is good! The body is cleansing, realigning, and most of all …. healing. How long you remain on Stage 1 depends on your individual health concerns and reasons for stepping into this diet.

The Body Ecology Diet was created by Donna Gates as a holistic and natural approach to address yeast, bacterial, or viral overgrowth (i.e., CandidaGBS+). By practicing this diet, your digestive system gets the opportunity to rest and repair and renew.
